What is SPERO-L?

SPERO is Latin for HOPE – a fitting name for a free email-based discussion tool about places of faith at risk in Canada. Increasingly, historic places of faith — both urban and rural — are threatened with deterioration and demolition. The reasons are many: shrinking congregations, years of deferred maintenance, shifting demographics and rising urban land values.

Join SPERO-L to find answers to questions about building maintenance, community outreach and fundraising, or share how re-purposed places of faith are being preserved and reused in your community. Either way, it's a chance to mobilize the will and resources to help save our sanctuaries!

How do I join SPERO-L?

Simply send a message to spero-l@heritagecanada.org or fill in this form.

A validation email will confirm your request to join.

How do I send messages to other SPERO-L subscribers?

Once you have subscribed, you can send a message to everyone on the list by simply addressing your message to spero-l@heritagecanada.org. If you would like SPERO-L users to know who you are and where you work, please feel free to include your name and contact information in your message.

Can I attach photos and documents to my message?

Yes! You may send photos and documents authored only by yourself. These attachments are subject to privacy and copyright laws.

How should I title my message?

Titles are important to help subscribers identify the subject of the message. Please be clear and concise. If you are replying to a posting, make sure to include the original title found in the subject line of the previous message.

Can I write my messages in the language of my choice?

Yes! The messages on the SPERO-L discussion list appear in the language in which they are written. Feel free to write in the language of your choice.

Can I look at past SPERO-L discussions?

Yes! The great thing about the SPERO-L discussion list is that all messages and discussion threads are archived here. Full text searches by keyword, date, or by theme allow you to find resources and information previously shared on SPERO-L.

What is HCF's role?
