Who we are
The
Heritage Canada Foundation is a national, membership-based organization
and registered charity established in 1973. The Honourable Jean
Chrétien, the minister responsible for the foundation's creation,
said at that time: "Maturity may be recognized in a nation when
its people take thought for their past: take thought... in the dynamic
sense of knowing the past as a key to understanding the present
and future."
Mandate
The letters patent which established the Heritage Canada Foundation
gave it the mandate to:
"...preserve
and demonstrate and to encourage the preservation and demonstration
of the nationally significant historic, architectural, natural
and scenic heritage of Canada with a view to stimulating and promoting
the interest of the people of Canada in that heritage."
