HCF Welcomes Parks Canada renewal of National Historic Sites Cost-Sharing Program

Ottawa, ON, January 31, 2013 – The Heritage Canada Foundation (HCF) welcomes Environment Minister Peter Kent’s announcement of the federal government’s renewed commitment to Parks Canada’s National Historic Sites Cost-Sharing Program. Through financial contributions, the Program shares the cost of work needed to stabilize, restore and repair structures of national historic significance.

Total funding available under the Cost-Sharing Program will be approximately $800,000 and will favour proponents who have not received funding from the Program over the past four years.

“This is good news,” said executive director Natalie Bull. “This modest investment will help prolong the life of some of Canada’s irreplaceable historic sites – places that shape our identity, create jobs, and attract tourist dollars.  Local groups can use the Parks Canada contribution to leverage additional funding from other sources.”

Applications must be submitted to Parks Canada by March 8, 2013. Program Guidelines are available online.
